Need opinion on upgrading cameras?

I currently have the Nikon D3000. I'm becoming more interested in photography and am looking to upgrade to a better camera. What camera to do think I should get? Preferably Nikon, so I can use my lenses.

How to protect my DSLR in hot, dry climate?

I'm going to Jordan, a middle eastern country, this summer. I'll be in 90˚+ weather all day, low humidity. Are there any storage tricks to keep my DSLR and accessories from overheating/melting?

Specific equipment: Nikon D5100 and Nikkor lenses all non-weatherproof, KSM CP filter (which is why I mentioned melting since it's glass)

Added (1). We will be doing a lot of walking to and from locations so constantly staying in the shade isn't feasible. I'd like advice on how to protect the camera while it is exposed to heat, not how to avoid exposure entirely.

How long will it take for my camera to charge?

So I have the Nikon D70s, I haven't turned it on for at least 9 months or a year! The battery is obviously out, but I have charged the battery for over 17 hours, and it still won't turn on when I put the battery in. At Best Buy where we bought the charger, they said that it was the correct charger, so it isn't a problem with the charger… I don't think. How Long will it take to charge?

I'm using windows 7 i want to burn some videos the videos were shot with my nikon D3100 camera and when i want to add them to windows dvd maker it sas: 0files wrre added the file bla bla bla (the files name ) is not supported file type and it can't be imported:
I wanna know if its the dvd maker or the cd or the video or what please help

Is the Nikon D5000 a better camera than the Nikon D50?

I've had a D50 fir about 6 years now and I recently bought my friends 2 year old D5000 for $300. I don't know much about the D5000 except for the fact that it shoots video and has a double the mega pixels that the D50 has, I just assumed it was a good upgrade from the 6 year old D50. I do a lot of landscape and low light/night photography, so I hope this was a good choice as an upgrade.
Thoughts and opinions please!
