Is Canon EOS 1200D good for astrophotography?
I'm planning to buy a camera very soon and my main intention is for star gazing. As a beginner, I checked the internet for the best camera (best meaning offers the quality but not so expensive - like $500 or less) but now I'm flooded with information that made it harder for me to choose.
Actually, I'm choosing between Nikon EOS 1200D and Nikon D3300? Are they good for my purpose?
Added (1). Yesterday, I checked out both cameras in the market. One store staff however suggested Nikon D3200 to me instead of the two. And its quite impressive. Is that good too?
I'd probably go with the 1200D - the low light performance is better and I'm not sure that you can reliably tether the D3300. The Nikon has an articulating screen, but I don't think that's a big enough plus.
The astrophotography gambit is likely to be a disappointment.
For the other worthwhile uses skip the 1200D for the 700D. The 1200D wastes your money by chopping out useful features to attain cheapness.
The key feature for astro photography is sensor performance.
Colour depth, dynamic range and performance at high ISO settings.
Here is a link that compares those attributes on the Canon 1200D and Nikon D3300
I recently purchased a "low mileage" Nikon D200 and had it converted to an "astro" camera (Visible + H-Alpha filter) and have it mounted on a Newtonian telescope with computer controlled motor to keep that lens pointed to the part of the night sky that interests me as the earth rotates on its axis
Yes you can.
