I think I broke my Nikon DSLR?

My D3100 got knocked off a table and hit the floor pretty hard. It still turns on and has it's functions, except when you go to snap the photo the image comes out black, but you can hear it click inside. When I'm in live mode, the picture comes through to the screen. If I send it to be repaired (if it can be) anyone know what the damage on my pocket will be? Or if it's even worth fixing it?

That probably means the shutter is no longer working. Yes the shutter can be replaced if that's the only problem. Cost? I don't know but you'll have to send it to Nikon for repair… Estimate, $300 or more.

It's worth fixing. Bring it back to the store you bought it from and ask for servicing.

It's going to be over £100 for any repair, but it's still worth finding out for sure. Yes, it's worth fixing if it can be done.

Get an estimate on the repair, and weigh it against the cost of a replacement. It's a $500 camera, and it can't be more than 2 years old, so it still has alot of life left in it if you get it repaired. I don't think you can buy just a body, so that comes with a lens. You could sell the lens for around $100 on Ebay. If it costs you $200-$300, you saved a couple hundred over buying a new one. If it's more than that, I would buy a new one. Another option if repair costs are too high, would be to upgrade to a D5100. You can get a body for $550 and use your existing lens (if it's not broken too).
