Canon EOS 7D for a starter photographer?

I'd used few other starting range DSLRs like Canon 1000 and Nikon 3000. I'd never been in any photography classes or read any books. I just used those DSLR to take normal shots playing with focus but still the results were nice enough to impress few people. I think the object gotta be beautiful for a beautiful output.

So, a person is ready to trade his Canon 7D with some of my gadget. I'm not sure if I should say yes. I will be going to take some hours of photography classes soon as I have an urge to carry a good DSLR.

The big minus on the 7D is price, you get what you pay for.

If you can trade some stuff you don't need for a working one, go for it.

It doesn't sound like you know enough about photography to use a 7D to it's fullest potential. You that, other than the camera body, you'll need lenses? Lenses are more important than the camera body. You'd be better off with a T3 or T3i so you have money to put towards a nice lens or two. So you think buying a 7D will instantly allow you to take pictures that will impress people. Buying a DSLR does not guarantee nice looking pictures. But before trading your stuff for that camera, spend some time learning about photography - your local library will have tons of basic photography books that will help you.

I had the chance to use the 7D not so long ago, it's an advance DSLR, a great camera with allot of options on it that you won't use in the beginning but if you are planning to take photography seriously then yes you should take it, the camera can serve you for a long time.

The kit lens are good for learning, to get some idea of what you like to shoot etc. But it's like a Ferrari (7D) with a Lada motor (kit lens) in it. Eventually you 'll have to get some prime lens to get the best (sharper image) out of your camera.
