A good starter camera for a new photographer?

Ok, I'm interested in becoming a photographer and already have subjects who are interested in allowing me to shoot them. However, I do not have much experience in this field (I've only taken a photojournalism class in high school, which I loved). Any idea what camera I should get (without going too crazy, e.g. The nikon 3000 or d60 is about the right price, although still a bit pricey)?
Also, what type of kits do I need? Should I get a tripod? How tall should it be? Most of all my pictures will be taken indoors and in actual photography studios…

So your budget is around 300 or so bucks? The D3000 and Rebel XS are your best bets at that price range. For now, just get an 18-55 kit lens. Don't buy a tripod unless you figure out you need one… Also, be sure to buy a spare battery for your camera…

Get a Nikon D3100 with the kit lens. You don't need anything else. After a while you may want to get another lens. In time you will know what you want. Just go shoot and have fun.

At the moment, a Nikon D3100 seems like your best bet. You don't really need a tripod if you're only beginning, though it might help. If you were to get a tripod, try getting at lease a 65", just in case.
