Which dslr camara brand is better, cannon or nikon?

I'm thinking about getting a entry level dslr camara. I just want to be able to take better photos. Since I have a budget my plan is to buy a second hand camara kit including a lense. This way if I really get into taking photos I can just buy a good new body. Yeah I'm just trying to decide wich brand to go with.

They're both equal in quality, but they have different feels to them, at least from what I've heard. I went to the store to get my first dslr, and this will sound weird, but I tried them both out and the Nikon felt most natural in my hands (d3100). The canon was really nice also, so you just have to find the one you like the most. As far as quality, they're about the same.

For what purpose?

Look at the Nikon D3000 or Canon Rebel XSi
