Nikon SLR Cameras

What starter DSLR camera?

Scott

I'm new to photography and looking into buying a DSLR camera. I have roughly a $1000 budget. I've read several articles on them, and between Nikon and Cannon, the cannon seems to be best for starter cameras. I'd like to get the most out of my dollar for accessories and the camera features. Any recommendations from someone with experience on which camera would be best for the money?
These are some I've been looking at, not sure where I'll buy it yet though.

Try out cameras before you buy them. See if YOU like canon or nikon better. I prefer canon, but I also appreciate the differences in nikon… Try before you buy!

Canon EOS Rebel series SLRs are good (T1, T2, T3). BTW, I own T1 and pictures are amazing.

How new to photography?

Do you know how to use a fully adjustable camera?

Of the cameras listed, the Nikon D3100 has a special feature for new users of dSLR cameras called the
"Guide Mode" with intuitive controls and on-board assistance to help you take better pictures every step of the way.

The D3100 costs just under $700 and will keep you busy learning how to control a dSLR.

Here is how all that works

Just so you know, ANY dSLR is a good starter camera, whether you pay $700 or $43, 000, All cameras work the same

Canon EOS T2i, T3i, Nikon D5100 and Pentax K-r would be the best.

Canon isn't better, nor is Nikon. Millions use both, so you can get the same with both cameras. It's not like Nikon is better for sports, and Canon for indoor shots. Your camera is just there with you, the settings you choose will define the image, not your brand.

I went the Nikon route and have liked them very much. But the Canons are also very good, and probably a little more popular. You really can't go wrong with either one.

Hi you may start with d3100 Nikon or Canon 550 depending on your preferences but you may find later on that it is the Lens which is more important as compared to camera however depending on your budget I suggest you to go for D90 Body @$900 only and go for nikkor 35mm af-s 199 $ you wil be delighted to see the results or go for inexpensive nikkor af 50 mm 1/8 D only @100$ D90 although has less megapixels but due to smaller sensor size more pixels may not yield good results with other variants

The T3i definitely delivers in picture quality and video. Granted, if you have another $1, 500+ to spend and money is no object… Then go for the higher end Canon DSLR's. But if you want to spend under a $1, 000 but want very good quality for photos and video… The T3i is great! There's not a humongous jump in features vs. Its T2i brother and for some, the T2i may be enough, in fact, if you are not planning to shoot video, some people may want just the XSi which I still see people using and have taken great pictures with it.
