Starter DSLR camera? - 1
I've been using a Canon point and shoot for about a year and I'm ready to move up to a DSLR. I really love photography and I'm looking for a camera with continuous shooting and great quality while still easy to use for a beginner. My price range can go up to $900 including the lens. I've been looking at a Canon Rebel T1i and a Nikon d40.
Can you give me input on these two cameras, advice on beginning using DSLR cameras, and any other good cameras?
Nikon D3000 is a best
I suggest the newest canon S95
The nikon D40 is a rather old camera and an entry level one at that. The rebel t1i is a far more recent cam in a higher class. So, of course the Canon is going to win this. Now, get a nikon d3100 or d5000 in the comparision and it's fairer and what you prefer.
Beginng using dslr, get a good book, read it and practice!
Each of the major name-brand manufacturers makes fine entry level cameras. What matters is not the features or reviews, but rather how these various cameras fit your hands and needs. I suggest going to a local store and trying each to see what you like.

Cont.shooting = Burst mode or frames per second, fps. I'd say you want 3.5fps+
All DSLRs have great quality, I recommend you Canon EOS T1i, T2i and Nikon D5000. However, 3.7fps from T2i and 4fps from D5000 is not different.
Here's a post called 'Buying a DSLR, what's important, megapixels, features, brand, price, quality - http://www.the-dslr-photographer.com/2009/03/which-dslr-to-buy.html
I have used Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera which is good one.
