Used Nikon n4004s not turning on.new batteries won't work

I got a nikon n4004s from my friend and i researched it online, found the manual and began putting new batteries in it along with a roll of film, but the camera is not responding in any way. I don't know if it's broken or there's something I'm not doing right. Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated!

Ask your friend. They need to take the time to show you how it works, how to load the film, make sure that the film is advacing and how to rewind it when the roll of film is finished.

Is this your first 35 mm SLR?

The N4004s is a rather complex camera so you need to know some of the basics of photography if you wish to enjoy using it.
