Can I use ordinary NI-MH batteries in place for Nikon's EN-MH2 batteries?
Hi, I seem to be having some trouble finding out if the voltage from Nikon EN-MH2 batteries are the same as some of the ordinary 1.2V NI-MH batteries found in specialist electronics shops. It is a Nikon L820 that is currently using 4X 1.5V lithium batteries.

Sure, but you really need to consider buying Low Self-discharge NiMH batteries since your camera has been optimized for them (the Nikon EN-MH2 batteries are NiMH.
I purchased 12 of those batteries and a 12 position battery charger. I use my NiMH batteries in my Nikon flash units. Low Self-discharge batteries are worth the little extra cost since they can hold a charge for up to 6 months
There are no 1.5 V lithium batteries…
As for "ordinary" NiMH - probably not. LSD NiMH though might work (like Eneloop) - these have a slightly higher voltage than ordinary NiMH.
I don't know if some Ni-MH batteries have more voltage or if they just call them 1.5 V because that is nominal voltage for AA batteries. So it probably just depends upon milliamp hour rating of the batteries as to how long they would last between charges. Nikon EN-MH2 have 2300 mAh. I have Ni-MH AA batteries that range from 1600 mAh from Radio Shack to 2450 mAh for Energizer batteries.
