Safe to shoot non-weathersealed lens during snowfall?

My dslr is weathersealed but my lens is NOT weathersealed.

Outside, there are heavy winds and lots of snow, so there's snow hovering around in all directions. Can I safely shoot my setup outside (ground level, just environment portraits) with no damage to the lens and body? I'm not sure if I'm being overly cautious.

How about if there was minimal wind but just some snow falling? I would rather ask for input rather than assume.

For reference:
dslr: Nikon D750
lens: Zeiss 28mm f/2

It's fine, as long as you don't let the snow melt on the lens and flow into it.

I've shot my DSLRs in snow fall without issue. I always keep my camera at ambient temperature (cold) so snow doesn't melt on the lens or camera.

It'll be fine just as long as you don't allow the snow to melt. You will need to put your gear into plastic bags prior to going into a warm environment to prevent condensation building up on the gear.

Here's a good read for cold-weather photography: http://www.outdoorphotographer.com/how-to/tip-of-the-week/tips-for-cold-weather-photography.html#.VpafMVK6u6E

Depends on the type of snow. Very cold dry sparkly snow is fine, wet sleety snow is not. Use a ziplock bag before you bring it back indoors.

Try a rain sleeve. Mine came 2 to a package and I think were about 8.00.

Drape a plastic bag or sheet over the lens barrel.
