I'm thinking of getting a Nikon F3 and was wondering if Rokinon manual focus lenses designed for Nikon would work?

Yes. The Rokinon designed for Nikon means the mount of the lens matches the mount of the camera. So all modern lenses with Nikon mounts will work on all modern (including the F3) Nikon cameras. And if it mounts, it will work.

I suggest you buy a Nikon F4s instead.

Why?

Because the F4s will be able to use not only all the lenses used by the F3 but any of the new Nikkor AF lenses and they cost about the same on the used market

Lance,

What you need to know is that the Nikon F3, and all Nikon SLR's are F-Mount. So all F-Mount lenses are compatible with it, with some exceptions.

If you buy a Nikon/F-Mount Rokinon lens, it will fit the F3. If you buy a Canon/EF-Mount Rokinon lens, it will NOT fit the F3. Simple as that.

But look, the F3 is a MANUAL FOCUS, Auto-Indexing (AI) body. So not only do lenses that fit it need to be F-Mount, they need to have the ability to be focussed manually and they must have an aperture control ring. All of Rokinon's manual focus Nikon-mount lenses have an aperture ring to my knowledge. So you should be good.

But it's best when discussing cameras to be specific. If you provided the actual lens name, we could confirm compatibility. What you should really do though, is write Rokinon to be 100% certain: http://www.rokinon.com/contact

Also, you may want to consider that buying a vintage manual focus Nikkor AI lens will be as good or better both performance wise, and certainly build quality-wise as the new Rokinon. Again, depends on the specific lens though!

Don't let the others BS you into an F4 than an F3. The F3 is the best selling, longest running Nikon film body of all time and continued to sell next to not only the F4 but also F5. I personally find the viewfinder and meter display limiting for low light, but they only get worse after the F2 and FM2n, in this available light shooters' opinion. F4's don't have a removable motordrive and the viewfinder is very similar to the modern cluttered mess that we're stuck with on DSLR's today. But at the end of the day, don't let other people tell you this or that camera is better than another. We all have different preferences and styles. Find what works for you!

KEH.com is a wonderful place to buy used Nikons.

Good luck and please be kind enough to choose a best answer!
