Lens compatibility for Nikon?
Will a lens (Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR afs 18-55) that came from the box of a Nikon D5000 kit fit on my Nikon D90? I have an 80-200 lens and a 300 macro lens. Would this 18-55 be a good compliment or should I go for 18-200 or something else?
Added (1). Thank you for AW Boater. The 18-55 is cheaper anyway and I only wanted a lens for portraits since my previous N70 lens broke.
Taylor, there's such a thing as a 300mm macro zoom lens. I purchased one years ago with my N70.It works great with my D90 by the way.
Added (2). Retired… It's not a nikkor. Never said it was. It's a Quantaray TECH-10 NF AF 70-300mm 1:4 - 5.6 D LDO Macro
The lens will work on a D90 (which is the camera I have).
The D90 kit lens is a 18-105mm, but you can buy the D90 body only. If you have a 18-55mm and 80-200mm lens already, you won't miss the gap between 55mm and 80mm.
The only reason to buy a 18-105 or 18-200 is for convenience - if you want a single walk-around lens.
Realize though that the 18-200mm lens begins to have some optical issues. I have one, and if used at f/8 it is perfectly acceptable. At the wide open f/5.6 (on the 200mm end), the lens does begin to be a bit soft, which is not unusual for a super-zoom.
Yes, all DX lenses will work 100% with the 5000 and the 90.
The 18-55 is a great walk-around lens. If you want a great all-purpose lens, get the 18-200… BUT, since you have an 80-200 that would be kind of pointless.
Just get an 18-55 VR.
There's no such thing as a 300 macro.
Update - You are incorrect. The only zoom lens that is a true macro lens is the Nikon 70-180. Your 70-300 "macro" is not a true macro lens.
Went looking for the Nikkor 300mm macro zoom lens. First of all, Nikon doesn't use the "macro" nomenclature (Canon does), they use "micro" instead. This is a list of all the micro lenses they have had.

Note that none of them are 300mm.
Maybe your "300mm macro zoom lens" is not a Nikkor?
