Yashica Film SLR lens to Nikon DSLR lens compatibility with the help of an adapter?

Here are the facts. I really need an expert opinion on this one.

1.) I have a Yashica 50mm ML lens from my FX-7 film SLR camera.

2.) I have a Nikon D5100 Digital SLR.

3.) I want to use that 50mm ML on my D5100.

4.) I saw an adapter for a cheap price that says "M42 Lens to Nikon Body Adapter" with a description of "Make M42 mount lenses (Zeiss, Pentax, Praktica, Mamiya, Zenit) can be used on NIKON cameras"

5.) I've read several articles about the relationship between Yashica and CZ lenses but I just don't get it.

The main question now is, will the 50mm ML work on my Nikon DSLR if I buy the adapter? Thanks a bunch!

Added (1). I'm aware of the hassle that I will be going through, like having an all manual setting (with no light meter), and not being able to focus to infinity.

Added (2). about the main question, that should be "will the 50mm ML 'successfully and perfectly mount' on my Nikon DSLR if I buy the adapter?"

The FX-7 uses the comparatively rare Contax/Yashica bayonet mount.

You MIGHT find an adapter, but I don't think it'd be worth the hassle, since Nikon's notoriously narrow lens throat means that even an M42 lens needs a corrective element to focus on infinity (your 50mm f1.7 would become a 75mm f2.4 with degraded performance, and neither your autofocus nor your TTL metering would work).

Using lenses with foreign lens mounts on any camera is dicey, especially digital SLR cameras which are designed to use modern auto-focus lenses.

You will certainly lose the ability to use the internal lightmeter in your fine D5100. You will also be manually focusing the Yashica lens.

The distance between the lens mounting flange and the focal plane on Nikon cameras is larger than most other cameras so if you were able to find an adapter, unless it has an optical component to it, you will not be able to focus on infinity.

And finally, adapters eat light, sometimes up to a full stop

I'm with Andrew here… I'd spend my money on an actual Nikon lens, you'll pick up something reasonable in the used/second-hand market… I use Nikon cameras with the Tamron Adaptall II lenses, that's the only adapters i'd use with any camera… Converting lenses and crossovers aren't worth my time or money… Even if it is a Carl Zeiss… Although i'm already doubting myself with that last statement?

You would be better to take the advice offered by both Andrew and fhotoace… Your money would be better spent elsewhere.

Is there a adapter for Yashikor Aux telephoto 1:4 lens fit a Nikon D5600 and a Yahikor Aux Wide Angle1:4 Lens to fit a Nikon D5600?
