What are the pros and cons of a DSLR camera and a SLR camera?
Is more D's beter or worse? (EG: Cannon EOS 600D DSLR)
Thoughts on the 'Canon EOS 600D DSLR'?

The "D" stands for Digital. As opposed to film.

I have the 600D/T3i and I can say from personal experience that it's a great camera. I have zero regrets with the purchase.

Any modern DSLR is capable of producing fantastic results. Be it Canon, Nikon or one of the lesser brands. Just find the one you really like, learn how to use it and be happy with it.

SLR cameras use an optical viewfinder that allows the user to see the scene exactly as it is through the lens. SLR cameras use film. The dSLR is the digital version.

With Canon (the non-exploding one), lesser D's are better. With other brands, it depends. The more expensive a dSLR is, the easier it will be to take the shot if you know exactly what you are doing. The other way around, the cheaper the dSLR is, the more crippled it will be.

Any dSLR will do. All of them are good, all brands, all models. They are all basically the same. Picture quality depends highly on user skill. The camera is only a tool.

DSLR's were never meant to do video. The right tool for that is a digital camcorder.

SLR is Single Lens Reflex, D in front of it means that it's digital, as opposed to film.

Pentax also make DSLRs, and Sony's SLTs do better video.

In general, the fewer digits, the more advanced (expensive) the camera is.

The Canon EOS 600D competes directly with the Nikon D5100 - both have been replaced (650D/D5200) and are priced similarly to the more advanced Pentax K-30 (equivalent to the Canon EOS 60D/Nikon D7100), which many reviewers believe to be superior.

You'll have to do your own research, looking at All the options within your budget, and then finding a dealer and handling them. There are no bad DSLRs, just a difference in how they feel in your hands - none of them will magically transform you into a photographer, that takes time and hard work.
