Nikon SLR Cameras

Which Nikon would be better for me?

I have a D5000 right now and I need to upgrade. Though this is a good starter camera it does not do a few things I want it to! Plus, the pro lenses from what I have read do not AF well with it.
I'm now considering either the D7000 or the D300s. I know the 300s is the higher end one but is there that much of a difference? Plus, I'm a little worried that there will be a new replacement for the 300s soon! Which would you get?
I'm going to be doing portraits, mostly of children.

Added (1). Also, I'm wondering if the D7000 can do wireless speedlight? I would assume so but i can't find text on it! Will the pro lenses work well on it? Like the large and heavy 70-200 f2.8?
Thanks!

Added (2). Yes, they do AF with it, but from what I have read not well. It is real slow. Then I also saw that if I chose to get the 80-200 instead it does not AF with the D5000. The big thing I needed it to do and it does not is the wireless speedlight. So basically, the big main difference is the tough body. Which will not matter much for me since i'm doing portraits.

D300s.

Robust build, includes screwdriver and good low light capabilities.

"it does not do a few things I want it to!"

Actually specifying those things would have gotten you better answers.

Pro lenses the last few years are all AF-S now and so they autofocus with your D5000.

D300s… You're not getting any scene modes, you're getting a well build camera with a superb AF system and controls. It is indeed up for replacement.
D7000 gives you about a stop more useable high ISO and better video. For portraits you do not need the build of the D300.

That you can't find text on wireless speedlight surprised me, it's right here on the official nikon website: http://imaging.nikon.com/...0/spec.htm
