I want the pictures to be memorable and cherishable. I heard that the Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens and 2.7-inch Vari-angle LCD is pretty good… What do you think? Any recommendations? Well please help me i'm new to this but i wanna be a tourist ahahaha >.<

your help is greatly appreciated (^_^)

Added (1). I heard about a recall on the Nikon D5000, has this been fix?

Added (2). Umm… If the camera is big and of course i don't want to carry a big camera around lol
is there any recommendations of which cameras are good for traveling and beginners? I just want to take quality pictures.may you suggest cameras for me, it can be nikon or canon. I have yet to choose which one i prefer of like.

I preferably like Canons
and for travel they have really advanced digital slrs or smaller ones… Instead of lugging the huge one around!

I love taking pictures and I have tried various cameras
Nikon, panasonic, Sony and canon. Canon has always worked good for me cox it's quality is the best. It's shutter speed is really fast so you don't have to wait for hour till your pictures shows up.

Here is the link. Check this one out! I have it and I love it.

I my self like the high end nikon, one thing to confided if you plan on traveling to other country's is do you want to Carey a big
expensive camera around everywhere? I tried this and found it a pain and plus in poor country's it kind of makes you a target to Theves I found it hard to worrie about my camera and enjoy where I'm at. Try getting a nice smaller camera that still take nice pics

I work at Best Buy and if you are getting an SLR I would get a Nikon. Both are great brands, but for what you want to do with landscape and tourist type picture the Nikon is better for you. The Cannon is better for actions movements. They are very expensive cameras. I would go into a store and have someone help you. They will be able to show you the different SLR cameras and explain the differences to you in person. You can always go home and do research on the camera you like best from the store. I would only recommend Nikon for SLR not for digital camera. Have fun traveling!

The answer is yes.

That is, both brands are top of their class. And chances are very good that you, as a first-time owner, will be too busy *getting the camera to work* to worry about the minor differences between them.

About the only reason to pick one over the other is if you already have autofocus lenses from a film-era camera. If you really need convincing, go to a camera store and get a hands-on demo. The most immediate difference is the interface (controls, dials, displays), and the likely deal-maker if lens choice and price didn't convince you.

You can't go wrong, and you can always improve.

WOW! Please Ignore all the previous responses (except Nahum's), people are getting too caught up in the debate of what's better Canon or Nikon. Everyone seems to have favorites or brand loyalty, BUt they are both equally good brand and it does not matter here.
For your purposes you do not want ether cameras you listed and non from those brands.
What you should get is the Panasonic DMC G2. Its perfect for your travel camera, and i know many professionals that use it when they are out and about because its so small and compact and produces beautiful Images. It also boasts lenses made by Leica. Best lenses in the world most say. This is a micro four thirds standard camera. I personally like the Olympus version better; which is the new Olympus E-PL2, because it has in body Image stabilization and its styling/looks are beautiful. I would recommend you would get it with the VF-2 accessory which prices it a little more above the G1 but its so dam tiny and has built in IS it might be worth it to you.

Look them up would will see they have all the features you were looking for plus HD video recording and way smaller size and priced less than what you were looking at.
