Look at how the sensors compare and then decide for yourself

As you can see, pixel counts don't mean much

For the thousandth time, neither brand is better than the other, it all comes down to ergonomics. Try out both dSLRs at a local camera shop and see which one you like better.

This is such a common question here and still people continue to ask it. Both the cameras are equally great and will give exceptional shots. It depends on personal preference. I like the Canon better not because its a better brand but because i've had more experience with them than the Nikons. I own the T2i and i'm sure the T3i would be even better. From the research i've done i found that the T3i is better than the D5100 because it has a built-in focus motor which means that it autofocuses with all autofocus lenses, has a higher true resolution (capture more than 10% more detail in your photos), higher resolution screen (more than 10% higher resolution screen) and has a larger viewfinder (around 10% larger viewfinder). I'd suggest you read this review for it too to see how it is performance wise:

For price details etc, check here:

And also read reviews, price detials etc of the Nikon D5100 to compare before making a decision:

Before making a decision read as many reviews as you can of both of them and than decide which fits the bill. Best of luck.

Well they are both almost identical so it won't really matter which one you go with. 2 megapixel difference, articulating screen, great video, same high ISO performance, 3.7 and 4fps.

I'd personally go with the T3i because D5100 has no ISO button and doesn't have an AF motor so not all lenses will auto focus.
