What settings should I put my Nikon D3100 on for a studio setting?
I have the Nikon d3100, still getting used to shooting with. Meeting up with a friend tonight in his studio and I don't want to have to ask a bunch of questions. What settings should my camera on to achieve a pretty good photo in the studio? F7 or F8 ish? And what ISO? Could use the help, as I'm still learning everything.
You need to learn how to use the light meter on your camera. There are NO specific settings for any camera
Just make sure that you have your cameras white balance to match the lighting you are using.
What ISO you set the camera to will have more to do with the amount of light is on your subject.
Usually 400 ISO is good enough when using 750 watt continuous lights
All that depends on the light at hand and the subject that you will be shooting. Best would be to just ask your friend. There's no shame in asking questions.
unless we know what light conditions and the subject at hand,. There's no way for us to know what the optimal settings would be.
The "best" setting is MANUAL… Plain and simple. BUT, without knowing how his studio is set up, any other advice is pretty much a moot point.
For example, if you shot with me in a studio using my 3 strobes for standard headshots… I would tell you to start with ISO200, an f/8 and a shutter speed of 1/125, take a shot and then make necessary any adjustments (either in camera or on the lights).
