What Nikon DSLR camera is best for a beginner?

For my birthday in September, I would really like a camera. The pictures will be focused on scenery with a few pictures of friends. What is the best camera to get if this is only my third time using a Nikon DSLR camera (I used a D7000)

I have a 3100 and I adore it.

What is your budget?
I can suggest a Nikon D3000 for $500: http://www.nikonusa.com/...D3000.html

I have an old d80 and I LOVE it!

It's nice that you use Nikon for DSLR cameras. I also use it too. Recently, I upgraded mine to Nikon d3100. Great DSLR camera. Try this one too.
