Best beginner to intermediate dslr camera?

I'm looking to buy a really good beginner-intermediate DSLR camera. I used to have a Nikon D70(I think) and I really wasn't satisfied with it. My sister has a Canon Rebel XTi and I LOVE it. I love how the pictures turn out, and the lens is awesome so I'm wanting to get a Canon. I was just wondering what is the best Canon dslr on the market right now that can be purchased for under $1, 000. I was looking into the Canon Rebel T3 but I don't need a video mode… I'm hoping to purchase a camera from Ebay to get it well under the market price.

Anyways give me your suggestions of a good Canon model. Would like it to have been released within the last couple years at most.

Why do you need a DSLR? Personally, I think a Micro 4/3 camera is the best bet tor ANYONE looking for high quality photos but doesn't need to sell photos for income.

Micro 4/3s cameras have interchangeable lenses can be used in full manual mode and the image quality is EXCELLENT and most importantly, they are almost small enough to put into your pocket.

I have a Canon 7D and a 40D. My Panasonic GF1 gets much more daily use than either of my Canon DSLRs.

If you really need (or want) a DSLR, it doesn't matter which Canon or Nikon you buy. They are all are capable of producing high quality images. Whatever you do, DO NOT try to save money by buying a lower cost lens. In almost all cases, the lens is much more important than the camera.
