The are both equally similar in technical specs. If you can get a feel for the camera say from Best Buy that's the way to find out which is better for you. I compared the two and I liked the feel of the Nikon better as the Canon's body was too smooth for me. The shutter noise was also a factor when I decided a Nikon over Canon. I liked the click sound of the Nikon better. Another point was how the lens zoomed in and out. The Nikon lens zooms in by twisting the lens barrel clockwise and Canon counterclock. I liked the display information layout, color, and brightness inside the viewfinder of the Canon, but that wasn't enough positive pointers for me to pick the Canon. Hopefully, these 'hands on' facts will help you decide which is better.
