Best Nikon Sports Lens for Under $600?

I've been wanting to take pictures at soccer/basketball games, and maybe a little bit of wildlife, but I do not know which lens to go to. I think I would need a zoom lens, but I'm very uneducated in lenses. I have the Nikon D3000.

I say, save your money and wait a little while. The Sigma 70-200 F2.8 is an excellent lens for the D3000. But it's closer to $1000.It's definitely worth the money though.

If that's a hard budget you'll be compromising. See if it covers the 55-300
