RODE video mic GO problem?

I just bought this mic (from a friend) to record better audio with my DSLR but it's not working…
on both of my cameras (Nikon D5100 and #3200)
*it is compatible with both of them
*it doesn't record ANY sound only produces hissing sound
*i've already checked my settings and played around with them but nothing changed.
*the guy i bought it from told me it's unused (i can see that from the packaging too)
Any ideas? :/

Did you install or replace the battery? The Rode Videomic uses a 9 volt battery.

It doesn't need a battery… It uses the camera's power

Try it with a battery anyway.
