Nikon D3100 lens compatibility from other brands?

I have a NIkon D3100 camera and I'm looking for new lenses. I only have an 18-55mm (AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens) and I'm looking for something up to 200 mm. Preferably beginning with 55mm. I'm no expert as I'm only a beginner and I'm beginning to love this hobby. My question is how do I choose a compatible lens for my DSLR? I'm not set on staying with Nikon's Nikkor lenses as I do not want to be restricted to choose if I can actually look for other brand lenses. I'm not looking for Nikkor lenses compatible with my camera. Is there some red flag I should look out for If i buy other brand lenses? I'm also looking for a lens/lenses that is not muy caro (expensive). Thank you very much, your help is appreciated

Added (1). Also, I prefer manual focus

How much is my camera worth? - 1

It's a Nikon d3200. It works, but has a few minor glitches ie freezing when pressing the playback button. It has wax damage (long story not my fault) and that it's why it freezes. It has it's original lens and battery and charger. How much should I sell it for?

Ps it won't be very expensive to fix, I have a replacement so I simply don't need it anymore.

Trouble with trying to transfer images?

I have a Nikon D5100 and have previously transferred images successfully to my PC for printing. Unfortunately, for the past year or so ill health and visits to hospital (several!) have prevented my using the camera at all until a few days ago. I find that now I can't transfer images at all. The instruction book tells me to connect the USB cable (with the computer switched on) then switch the camera on (same for transferring by using the SD card in the slot in the PC), then select from the dialogue box. Trouble is, no dialogue box appears and if I click on "Nikon Transfer 2) and then on "Source", there's no sign of any device in use! Am I doing something stupid? I certainly had no trouble transferring images a year ago. Incidentally, to forestall a possible suggestion, the instruction tells me to ensure the camara battery is fully charged, and it is. Any ideas would be welcome, so thanks in advance to all those who try to help.

What DSLR to get for a beginner?

I love taking pictures
Right now I have a Canon Powershot sx 40 hs and I love it. But I think it's time to upgrade and I want to try DSLR cameras.

I've had both Nikon and Canon and don't really have a preference. I don't need video so that's not important. I would just like a camera that has the best image quality - with the starter lens (I plan to upgrade to better lenses once I get the hang of it)

I've only looked at the Canon t3i and the Nikon D5100 but can't decide

Is there a camera that has better image quality than those 2?

Also I don't want to spend anything more than $600

Getting a new camera? - 1

I have a nikon d3100… I have 2. Long story. I only have a kit lens the 18-55 and a 50.
If youre answering the question you already know about crop factor and what not.

I got these a year ago and now i'm ready to move up. I plan on building an arsenal of lenses
but before I do that I need to know what direction I'm going in.

I know nikon. So far I like their stuff. So I was gonna stick with it.
It was between the d7100 and the d610
full frame or no? I know I want a full frame camera.
and since the prices are so close should I go ahead and go full?

Going from 55-200 to 55-300. Much point?

I currently own a D5100 and a standard 18-55 with a Nikon 55-200 lens ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/...0009HN57Y/ )
I was just wondering is there much point in selling my 55-200 and buying a Nikon 55-300mm ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/...003ZSHNCC/ or an equivalent 55-300mm lens?
I have heard that it's not worth the money going from a 200 to a 300 as you only get a little closer and it's is so minor. The only time it is worth it is if you're upgrading the lens considerably. Looking at the above two lens would it be worth it? Is what i've been told true?

I normally shoot scenic photos and Wildlife.

Nikon D3000 'lens not attached'?

Hi, I'm sure this has been asked thousands of times, but there are so many answer of no relevance, I thought I would start from scratch.

I have just bought a Nikon D3000 and the sigma 24-70mm lens. This isn't for myself and I have no clue about cameras, so any help would be appreciated.

It says 'lens not attached' when in anything other than manual mode.

When in manual mode, i take photos but they are black.

Anyone had this problem and found the solution? Am I using entirely the wrong lens?
