Looking to move past my entry-level DSLR?

I bought a nikon d3100 (mostly only use for video) as an affordable dslr while I was still in highschool. Two years later, I'm graduated and going to film school! I want to upgrade my camera but don't know what would be best. I don't have a particular preference as to nikon/canon. The camera I have now was good for basic shots and things of that nature but I want to move on to something with higher quality and that has more features. I have about $1, 000 that I can spend.

Nikon D3100 Lenses, I have an AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G What do these numbers mean?

I would like to buy a lens that would allow me to focus and take shots at a longer distance, so what numbers on the lenses should I be looking for? I'm new to photography as you probably guessed!

Which is better (DSLR Cameras)?

I've been told from a few people "you can't get a (new or used) DSLR under $400". However I've seen a few used ones popping up quite cheap. As I'll probably only be taking a few hundred photos while I'm overseas I don't need something brand new.

The first two I've noticed at a similar price point (~$200) are the Nikon D50 and Canon EOS 350D both come with 18-55mm lens.

Which is the better of the two? Or is there an even better used DSLR around the same price?

DSLR problem Lense is Off center is what i think they call it?

Okay so this is my prob i have a Nikon D5100 and lately when i take pictures they seem fine on the viewfinder but when i take a picture and look in the gallery the pictures are not aligned with the picture i took the picture seems to be a little facing more on the left, but when looking at it on the viewfinder everything seems fine. Could this be a prob in the Lens or is it a prob within the cameras sensor, mirror or etc?

Is the Nikon D3100 good for sound on video because I heard it wasn't the best?

I like this camera (the link to the camera is down below) but I would use the camera all the time for videos and I need it to have good sound because I make YouTube videos, I'm also really into photography so it has to be great for both, I know its good for photo's but I heard its not the best with the sound. So if its not good for sound please leave a camera that takes good photos like this one but with great sound. Thank you.

Do 15-55 lens be good for traveling in London?

I'm going to travel in London soon, and I'll buy there my first DSLR camera.

I've decided to buy the Nikon D3100 with the basic lens - 15-55.In London I'll be taking photos of everything… Museums, the London Eye, views and other attractions. I'll be taking photos in small rooms, such as museums, and big places - such as some views.

Will 15-55 lens be good for taking this kind of London's photos?

I don't really know how the cameras world works like, so please help me!

Thanks!

Added (1). I'm sorry, you're right! I was talking about the 18-55.
