Any good? Would people advice something else within that price range? ( they're selling on ebay 2nd hand for under £200) Cheers from beginner

The D70 is a great camera - sturdy body with an autofocus motor, and it has the nikon wireless flash control system (CLS) - the pop up flash can be used to optically trigger a Nikon speedlight off camera.
These are features sadly lacking in newer entry level models (the D3100, D5000).
It won't have Live view, or 'multi-point focus tracking', that sort of thing, but as a workhorse DSLR body it'll be fine - a good, cheap way to get into a DSLR.
The D70/D80/D90 series of cameras are special ones. Cheap but still have an AF motor and wireless CLS. Which for a serious photographer will be more useful than the D3100 or D5000 which have neither of these. The D70 also has a higher flash sync speed than any camera in production right now, which is useful if you're shooting with flash outdoors.
Much of this actually doesn't matter for you right now, it's unlikely you'll be using wireless CLS right now. But having the AF motor means you'll save a packet on the rather useful 50mm f/1.8 lenses.
