Nikon D7000 Panoramic photography?

Ok let me start by saying I'm a Journalism Student w/minor in photojournalism. I know from reading other post I will get a few dinks that will comment "read your manual." This question is for the Nikon DSLR users / professionals out there.

I recently bought the new Nikon D7000 camera I upgraded from the D60. Now I knew a lot about my D60, but upgrading to the D7000 has blown my mind. The features / modes blow the D60 out of the water, and on the same note since there are so many features I'm a little lost at the same time.

I'm trying to figure out how to shoot in Panoramic. I'm not even sure this is possible I have been playing with the camera, and still coming up blank. I have gone through the manual looking for anything that even mentions it, and nothing. Is there anyone out there that has shot in Panoramic mode with a D7000 that can help me out.

Panoramic is done with software. If you know the basics, a tripod that's level just spin and shoot.
Then stitch them together with software. Not all programs have panorama so you'll have to watch for it.

It's not a setting in the camera - this is not a point & shoot! To shoot a pano, you take several frames of the scene & stitch them together in software.

You need a good tripod - shot with the camera vertical (less distortion & more image data that way) and overlap each frame by about 33% to get a good stitch. Manually adjust exposure so that it doesn't vary between frames.

AFAIK no nikon DSLR offers a panorama mode, in fact the only maker that probably has that is Sony, they like to put consumer things like that in their cams.

The quickest way to accomplish an OK panorama is shoot handheld with overlapping shots and stitch them with a tool like this:

USing that technique yields me results like this:

Of course using a tripod with a panorama head will yield better results.

The camera doesn't have a sticher. You do the stitching in software. The D7000 is a capable camera, but doesn't have much in the way of on camera editing gimmicks.
A brief guide on how to do panos:

Take multiple overlapping images (at least 30% overlap).

Best if you set your camera to manual everything: focus, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, ISO. You don't want your camera settings to change while taking your pano.

You can use a tripod without any fancy pano heads if your subject is far away (mountains for example). I normally shoot without tripod and use my finger under the lens as a pivot point to reduce parallax issues.

Use software to stitch the images together. Photoshop (modern versions) has a stitcher. If you want to go the free route, Hugin is an excellent stitcher.
