Nikon d40? Or Canon EOS Rebel T1i?
I'm deciding which camera I should get for Christmas. I'm in photography, it's one of my most favourite things to do. But I want a camera that has great quality, works well, and lasts for quite a long time.

Added (1). Thank you so much!

Out of those two, you should get the T1i, the D40 has been discontinued for two years now. What you should be looking at is the Nikon D3100 which is the "most bang for the buck" in the beginner DSLR cameras. Either way you go, its more of a matter on which do you like better. Both of those systems will last you three years at least.

Both are great and you won't notice almost any differences in image quality if you're looking at the pictures on your monitor. However, if you print "monitor size" and bigger, you will notice it, since the T1i has almost 2x more MP's than D40.

The T1i has more megapixels, bigger body, bigger LCD screen, slightly faster (3.4fps) and higher ISO range. Quality is pretty much the same, also consider D40x, Canon EOS XS and XSi.
