Nikon D40 better than Canon EOS REBEL T1i?

I have the money for either camera almost, I just can't decide which one is better. I take all kinds of photos. I want a camera that will get insane detail in each shot, which one is better?

The T1i is newer, has more resolution, and has video capability.
The D40 is less expensive, but has less resolution (6 megapixels) and no video.

Considering the T1i came out recently and the D40 was discontinued 2 years ago…

well if it is detail you are looking for, both are fine. If you are doing more cropping, I would go with the T1i. I have the D40 and my dad admits that I get better pictures them him.

taking a picture is more dependant on the photographer and lens, not the camera itself.

get the T1i, you can actually get it new.

No, the T1i is newer with higher resolution, better noise reduction, better metering, video capability, and AF compatibility with all Canon EF lenses. The Nikon equivalent to the T1i would be the D5000.

But in all honesty, if all you want is get a lot of detail into your shots, pick up a high quality point and shoot. A DSLR is for people who want manual manipulation of their images, and if all you're interested in is image resolution and shooting at automatic, you (and your wallet) are going to be happier with a good point and shoot.
