Nikon D3000 shutter/aperture?

The user's manual states that when the mode dial is on "M" or manual mode, then the aperture and shutter speed are manual. The thumb scrolling dial will manually adjust the shutter speed. How do I also manually adjust the aperture in this mode? I have tried everything and the user's manual is not clear on this.

Press the exposure compensation button (near the shutter release with the ± symbols) and spin the thumb wheel. See page 71 in your manual.

Do you have an owner's manual? If not you can download a pdf version from the Nikon site. Do that.

I circled the button as you can see

hold it down, and when you scroll, it should change aperture and not shutter speed.
