Is NIKON D3100 good for beginners?
Is NIKON D3100 good for beginners?
It is.
It is a good entry level dSLR and there's NOTHING you can't learn about photography with that camera
Oh yes, an excellent starting-point.
It's very good. Besides having a Guide Mode that leads you through most common situations, you have a variety of modes for your creative vision. After you've gotten comfortable with the camera, you can easily make personal adjustments to suit your style.

It's a great entry camera into the vast Nikon system.
Now, that being said, it should be dropping in price soon as the amazing Nikon D3200 is coming out.

It is a good camera to learn photography on. If you are just looking for a basic camera to take snapshots stay with a point and shoot. Just mentioning because I'm not sure what level of beginner you were referring to. It will allow you to shoot great photos and learn all the settings. I'd say it is a good camera.
Yes but…
Think about it, do you think that you will be a beginner for the rest of your life? Of course you're not, in fact experience tells me that most photographers either learn very quickly or give up completely. You may as well buy the next level up, which is the D90 or second hand D200 which will provide you with more growing room.
So with a D90 and a D200 you lose guide mode, but overall these two cameras offer better AF, better metering, better compatibility, better viewfinder and better ergonomics. You might not notice the difference in the first six months, but within a year you'll really feel the real world improvements that the D90 and D200 have.
It is a very good camera as a starting point. It is very easy to use and the results are very good. It should also last you for years without any need to upgrade to anything else. I bought one ten months ago and it does everything i want it to. I will no doubt keep using it until it falls apart, I have been taking photographs for 45 years and so far this is the best camera i have ever used.
