How many pictures can a 4 GB memory card hold?

I have a Nikon D40 camera, with a 6.1 megapixel. The current memory card I have is 256 MB and can hold 53 pictures.

4GB can hold around mabey 2k pictures. I have an 8GB and it holds 2.5k

You just need to do the maths. 256MB is approx.one 1/4 of a GB (1GB = 1000MB) so if 256MB holds approx. 53 images, then 1GB should allow approx.a little more than 200 images… 200 x 4 = approx. 800 (Fine/Large Jpeg) images.
