I'm interested in buying a dslr camera. I was thinking about the nikon D5100 or D3100. My budget is $900. Suggestions?

Well the prices varies, but i'm sure $900 is enough for both of the two Dslr cameras.
Nikon D5100 is only $699.00 at Amazon, as for D3100, in most of the stores it's much cheaper than D5100.

I'm a Canon guy. I own two of their dslr cameras and really enjoy them both so I recommend only Canon because of their relentless drive to quality.

I have a Canon Eos Rebel T2i. It takes great picture with the right lens cost about $750-$850 at Costco or Walmart. It also depends on what you are going to use it for. It is 18 megapixels has hd recording can change shutter speed… Overall it is a great camera I myself am only 12 yEars old but getting more into the advanced features and no I didn't buy it myself my dad did but I always use it. It is great for both videography and photography.

The D5100 is probably a little more comparable to the Canon Rebel T3i / 600D, ie, high-entry level… Whereas the 60D is generally considered to be past entry level, into mid-level territory.

Although there's not so much difference between D5100 and D3100. Recently nikon launched a new model i.e. D3200 which sit into the D3100 (Inexpensive) and D7000 (expensive). Its cost must be around $700.

Camera alone doesn't work when clicking the nice pix. You will need some more lenses. Like the above cameras will come with 18mm -50mm lense. If you want more zoom. You will require 55-250 or 70-300 lenses. Or if you want wider landscape pix. You will need wide angle lens.i. E. 10-20mm from Sigma.
