Canon EOS Rebel T3 or Nikon D3100?

Being a Canon guy I only recommend what I own and therefore know - Canon.

Both are great cameras.

The question is which camera system do you want to be married to for the next few decades?

Visit a proper camera store and hold both in your hands. While you are there, have the salesperson show you how the Guide Mode works on the Nikon D3100

I would say Nikon, but I have a Nikon d5000. I chose that instead of the d3100 because along with its HD video it has stop motion movie. It has a rotating LCD screen which broadens your creativity to create interesting angles that you would not be able to otherwise. It has A TON more scene modes, and has white balance bracketing. I have only positive things to say about my nikon, and have no regrets.

D3100 costs more, but comes with one stop higher max ISO, slightly less noise, 2 more AF points, slightly larger LCD screen and Full HD vs HD video.
