Best type of focus for live music photography?
I've just brought a nikon d90 and am taking photo's of a mates band next week, i was wondering what type of focus to use my camera has a AF-C function or would i be best to use M?
I just don't want to take the photos and come home and realise the mic is in focus and not the singer!
AF-C should do, just make sure you place the active focus point over the singer's eyes.
oh, and haha
Continuous will work if you have enough light for the auto-focus to work well.
Usually if you are shooting with continuous focus (like when shooting sports or other action shots) the chances of you staying in focus is the highest. Make sure that the focus point shown on the cameras viewfinder is on the performers cheek, NOT the microphone. The D90 has11 different points you can choose to keep in focus
Manual focus will require you to manually focus the lens, hard to do when subjects are moving all around, especially on a dramatically lit stage
I hope you have some fast lenses if the light is marginal… Otherwise you could end up quite disappointed.
