Best lens for live music photography?

I'm starting to get into photographing live bands and the only lens i have is the one that came with my nikon d5100(18mm-55mm f/ 3.5-5.6)
It doesn't zoom as far As id like so if i'm not right near them then the pic looks bad. And also it doesn't snap fast enough when its dark so everything turns out blurry unless the ISO is extremely high in that case there's a bunch of noise.
Can someone recommend a good lens for my nikon that zooms pretty far and has a good shutter speed for lighting and such? I usually am right by the stage when taking pics if that counts for anything.

There are two lenses that you might look into for your D5100.

If you are really close, you will need a wide angle lens. The one I use on a DX camera (D300) is the 17-55 f/2.8.It is an outstanding lens in all regards.

The other lens that is almost a requirement for concert work is the 70-200 f/2.8 VR. It's the Holy Grail. You'll see that many of these 70-200 samples are concert photos
