Best starter camera for amateur photographer?

I've been meaning to get a good camera for photography since my digital Nikon broke.

I'm looking for something not too complicated for a beginner, and not too expensive. It doesn't matter if it's a model that was released a couple years ago, or is recently new. Just a decent beginner photography camera is what I'm looking for: P
