Can I bring my Canon EOS XS Rebel to Radio City Music Hall?
I'm going to a concert there for the first time next months and my Canon is essential. My photos are very important to me, although I do have other cameras just in case. I have two detachable lenses. I want to bring the bigger one, which makes it sort of obvious that it's detachable… Despite that fact, who knows what the security guards might know about cameras, huh? I'm not sure how they even are about cameras there, but can I get away with the bigger lense on my camera if I don't bring my other lense in my camera bag?
I also had another situation where at The Nikon theatre in Jones beach I brought the camera and got away with both lenses the first day I went to the concert there. They didn't even check my bag. Then the second day they decided to check, and then wouldn't let me in with the camera, because I had detachable lenses. Mind you, I had both unattached in there. Maybe if I had had one on I would have gotten away with it. Anywho; let me know what will happen if I bring my canon with just the biggest lense attached! I think I could get away with it. If not I will bring one of my other cameras.
Call them and ask.
Phone the venue and ask them, they're paid to answer questions like this.
If their policy is no professional cameras, they won't let you in with anything that even looks like a DSLR. I always get into venues with my Olympus Pen but people with bridge cameras that look DSLRs get pulled aside. This is just the perception among people who don't know anything about cameras - black DSLR style to them means it must have interchangeable lenses. No way they will let you in with a Rebel. It's not really even worth the trouble anyway. You can't get good pictures of a show from your seat in the audience. Just go and enjoy the show and buy postcards. Bring a pocket camera or cell phone in case you get to meet the performers or you just want some shots of yourself in the audience.
I would doubt they allow it but if you want to risk it you can try. I'd rather enjoy the concert and not worry about taking pictures.
