Can and sd card break a Camera's sd card slot?
I've recently baught an 8 GB SanDisk sd card and it worked in both my friend's Nikon and my school's Canon cameras, but when I tried it at my Canon camera, the card wasn't working. It said my SD card was locked though the switch says otherwise. I've tried multiple cards and they were said to be locked. My camera used to work just a few days ago. Could my new SD card be the problem?
Yes, an SD card can break a camera's SD card slot. For instance, a Sony SD card disintegrated in my Nikon D90 card slot, causing $260 worth of damage.
However, that is rare. Look in the card slot and see if you can see anything that might cause the write lock sensor to not work. If the slot is pristine, start the warranty process with Canon.

It would help if you stated the exact model you have. An 8GB SD card is actually an SDHC card, and older cameras won't be compatible and can't be updated. That can cause faults and errors such as the one you've reported.
No.
The person holding that memory card and camera can. The card lock sensor of your camera is broken. Have it fixed at an authorized Canon service center.
If you tried multiple cards and none of them worked, it's probably the camera.
I think you could definitely damage the SD card slot if you're too rough with it, like if you shove your cards in the slot too hard, or if you force it in the wrong way.
ONLY if you try to force the card into the slot in the wrong direction.
There may be an option in your cameras menu that can lock out a memory card, but I have never heard of one.
I would call Canon and ask them to help you figure this out.
