Is Windows 8 worth it?

My birthday is on the 17th and I'm buying my birthday present if I have enough money for either a Nikon D3100 or an Acer computer touchscreen with Windows 8. I have an Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 7 and honestly, I don't know why I want a Windows 8. Maybe just because it looks cool? But the thing is, I don't know if Windows 8 is worth my money. I saw the W8 Acer in coscto the other day and I just loved it. I just don't know if I will regret buying it. I love to write so I need word and I also listen to music a lot on my computer.Am I able to download iTunes or do I have to use the music app it's got on W8? What are the PROS and CONS of W8?

Am I better off getting a camera or just saving my money or getting the computer? Please apply as much information about W8 as you can. Thanks.

Added (1). Also, I forgot to check the Acer laptop, but it's the one that's at least 18mm thin therefore, would it have a DVD hard drive? Or would i not be able to watch DVD's?

My brother tells me that windows 8 isn't that good, he says it too complicated, and my cousin has a windows 8 computer and i find it pretty difficult to use and sometimes annoying.

If your acer isn't a touch scree, then w8 is a hassle to use with a mouse. I would stay with w7 because the environment is more stable.

First and foremost i will recommend that you stay away from Windows 8.why?

1) Quite alot of people are having problems with windows 8 with regards to the userface/touchscreen. If you notice, alot of the high end laptops/computers still use windows 7 because it is stable and very reliable. Especially for gaming, music composing and many more.

2) Windows 8 has fewer compatible programs/software. Many programs that are compatible with Vista, XP and Windows 7 are not compatible with windows 8, meaning that all your favorite software and games might not work on windows 8,

3) I'm an IT Technician and i get alot of people wanting to downgrade their pc's to windows 7, to me that's more than enough reason not to buy it. Rather buy a high end PC/laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate (e.g The new HP Pavilion DV7 series with BEATS Audio) Great for listening to music and watching movies

Don't be ignorant. Windows 8 have just changed interface and within a week you will get used to it.

There's no problem at all in using windows 8 and it have increased performance, better than win 7 and have most of much needed drivers already available which is not the case with other versions of windows.

And about compatibility, everything is compatible with windows 8. If it runs in windows 7 then it will run in windows 8.moreover latest softwares, games, apps everything will always give support for windows 8 as it is latest OS and companies will slowly stop giving support to older OS but not windows 8
