AI-S lens compatibility with Nikon D7000?

I have a 80-200mm F/4 AI-S and it's not metering with my D7000. I've heard that D7000 is compatible with old lenses. I'm getting F/0 on my display.

The Nikon D7000 can use both AF and AF-S lenses as you know.

Any AI or AI-S manual focus lens can also be used.

To focus, just use the electronic rangefinder. The D7000 lightmeter will work just fine with those lenses

The camera can't electronically know what your f number is. However, I think that in the manual mode it is supposed to mechanically detect how many stops you have set you aperture ring away from wide open. If so, then it should be able to give you a meter reading of whether it thinks you are over or underexposed. Does your metering display scale show any response like this?

The lens is not feeding the aperture back to the camera, but you know what the aperture is, f/4, so no harm. Use the lens and enjoy the results.
