Nikon d5100 compatibility?
I recently purchased a windows 8 laptop. I also bought a nikon d5100 camera. I didn't think about windows 8 compatibility and apparently that could be an issue with the software. My question is, will the camera will soon be upgraded? Should I chance that Nikon will make it compatible or buy a Canon t3i. The t3i is $50 more and I really like what I've researched about the Nikon. My husband does have a window 7 computer that I could use if necessary.
The D5100 uses SD cards, so there's no need to worry about compatibility. Just use a USB card reader.
You are refering to uploading files (image & video) from your D5100 to your laptop
Now thats a USB 2.0 connection and has nothing to do with your operating system
Be it Windows 8 or 9 or., Linux or whatever, as long as it's not archaic like Windows 3.1 which does not have USB support!
If you mean the supplied NX2 software, no reason why Windows 8 will not support that
I'm not 100% sure on that, but even if NX2 were not supported. You would hardly miss anything

The D5100 uses SDHC memory cards. And you will have no problems uploading your photos. The D5100
has already been replaced by the D5200. No need to change anything. The D5100 is a great camera. I
have the D5000, and have no plans to upgrade.
Use a memory card reader ($6.00). Don't use camera to computer cords. An SD memory card reader means you don't have to be concerned about compatibility
