Best Lenses for Nikon D7100?

Recently bought a Nikon D7100 and I'm looking for an everyday lens. I'm mainly looking for a couple of lenses, like a solid 0ne-two punch for the camera. I currently have the 18-105 lens from the kit and got a used lens from a family member (55-300). With the 55-300, I'm limited to very far pictures and can't get the full scene in the frame and I do not believe the 18-105 is going to cut it in the long run. I have heard the Tokina 11-16 is a nice wide angle lens as well as the Sigma 18-35 for an everyday. Are these two pretty good choices? Recommendations?

Not the best approach in answering a question BUT it would have helped loads more if you told us what you prefer to shoot (I'm guessing its landscapes).

If you shoot scenery/landscapes and need more width then the 11-16 makes sense. You already have the range of the 18-35 with the 18-105 so that should help you grasp whether the 18-35 will meet your expectations.

Your choice of lens is dictated by what you shoot.

Wooaaaah, slow down there partner. Before you go buying a bunch of lenses because you "think" you need something different, wait a bit. Take photos and keep track of what you were doing. Keep note of what you were trying to photograph if/when your current 2-lens system wasn't enough. You may find that your current 2-lens setup is all you need. Buying stuff because you think you might need it will often result in gear collecting dust.

Your 18-105 is the equivalent to 27-157mm in 35mm format. This is a great walking around focal length, so I'd keep it unless you discovered that you needed a lens that has roughly the same focal length but had a larger aperture. At which time you'd be looking at a lens with an aperture of f/2.8.

Since you already have a wide-angle lens that starts out at 18mm, I would not recommend getting the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 lens unless you knew that you needed the f/1.8 aperture. In which case this would replace your current 18-105mm in specific shooting situations. Therefore, I highly recommend adding an ultra-wide zoom to your kit. This 3-lens setup of a ultra wide, a standard, and telephoto zoom is pretty much what everyone has in their bags. Plus, maybe a very fast lens like either a 35mm f/1.4 or a 50mm f/1.4 for when you need to shoot in low light or to create that super-shallow depth of field look.

The "Best" lens can only be based upon what subjects you shoot and if you are shooting sports in low light.

Here is a link that shows All the Nikkor lenses you can use on your D7100. What you will see is that the longer the zoom range (like the 18-300 mm zoom some people use as their "walk about" lens) or prime lenses with large apertures, are going to cost more. In that case, your budget is going to limit what you buy.

This second link shows you what various lens focal lengths "see"

For everyday, the 18-105mm is enough unless you shoot from afar all the time then the 55-300mm should be it. Since you find yourself in a bind like most other photographers out there, the safest thing to do is to bring both lenses all the time.

If you however find that the 18mm end of your kit lens is not wide enough then you should go for the 11-16mm since the Sigma's zoom range is already a part of your kit lens.
