What are some of the best Lenses for Nikon D7100?
Lenses for any or all types of photography.
looking for some that are not overly expensive but not extremely cheap either.
somewhere between $100 - $900
You don''t say what you're trying to shoot.
For a general purpose vacation lens, the 18-140 and 18-200 lenses are handy. The 18-140 is smaller than the 18-200 which makes it easier to carry. Both lenses are sharp, but suffer from lots of distortion. If you only shoot JPG, then you can tell the D7100 body to correct for lens distortion. I do distortion correction in post processing when necessary (i.e. When straight lines in the picture).
If you like macro, something around the 100mm range is a good choice. You can get the Nikon 105mm micro (macro). For less money, Tamron, Tokina, and Sigma make macros. This can be used as a portrait lens. All the macros are superb performers, but you need to be aware of the variable aperture nature of macro lenses when shooting close up (less than 4 feet). Not a big deal, but it catches people by surprise.
There are numerous prime (non-zoom) lenses, but you'll need to know what focal length works for you. Primes generally have excellent optics.
This is the best way to throw away your money! You purchase a lens when the NEED presents it self. Like I found that digital (DLSR's) could not even copy a 5x7 print. That meant for me I needed a macro lens. But my first lens was a 50-200 simply because the 18-55 did not bring distance scenes in close enough. Then when you ask for example "what is the best short wide angle lens?" You will get much more valuable answers.
There are some 100 lenses that do various jobs on the Nikon D7100. You might look over this list of Nikon lenses that have been reviewed.

You will note that the right column is headed by the D7000. Your D7100 uses the same lenses.
I prefer Nikon lens but Tamron, Sigma, and others also make decent products. In Nikon, I suggest the ever-popular 18-200mm 5.6-6.5 VR zoom. It'll cover nearly all of you needs, all in one lens. There's also a newer 18-300 version of the lens that is larger, heavier, and more expensive -- if you need the extra 100mm of zoom.
