Nikon D7100 Best Lenses between the two? (NY Trip)?
I plan on going to NY (Manhattan) and plan on using a few different photography, Portrait (with background clear and blurred), and Landscape (Ground level (Sculptures) and sky-view (such as Top of the rock (Similar to empire state building.
I'm looking at two different lenses:
Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 DX AF-S G NIKKOR (2003-)

and
Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 FX AF-S G ED NIKKOR (2007-)
http://www.kenrockwell.com/...4-70mm.htm
I was told that both lenses are compatible with D7100. I don't care about the price, I just want to know which would be better out of the two (for my needed uses). One person recommended the FX (because I want to do Portrait and Landscape and the portrait would be better for this lens) lens I was just wondering since the DX lenses was built for the D7100 why wouldn't it be better?
Both lenses are very sharp, I have owned and used the 17-55 f2.8 for about 6 years with excellent results all the time. The 17-55 on a DX body like the D7100 will give you a more useful lens indoors at social events like weddings parties. The 17-55 is lighter in weight although it is about a 26.6 ounces and the 24-70mm F2.8 lens weighs 31.7ounces.
The 24-70 is nearly identical in quality but is made for a FX body and it is a bit heavier. If you plan on going to FX body "soon" the 24-70 would be a better choice. Both of these lenses have the F2.8 at all apertures and the gold ring around the end about 3/4 of an inch from the front lets everyone knows you are using one on NIKON'S Pro lenses. At wide open apertures you will get slightly less vignetting on the edges with the 24 to 70mm F2.8 on the D7100 at wide aperatures.
Either lenses is a great performer.
On a trip to New York with a D7100 I would definitely recommend the 17-55mm F2.8.
The 24-70m F2.8 would be ever so slightly better for portrait use on a D7100, but in overall use on a D7100 the 17-55mm F2.8 is a much better all around more useful lens.
