Why is my video editing software so laggy?

I just bought MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2016 and the effects are cool but the problem is the software is really laggy to the point where I can barely see what I have edited in the preview screen. I did film with a NIKON D 3300 at 60 fps (not sure if that has to do with anything) I believe my latptop has an i3 processor, could it be my pc is too slow?

Yes, your PC is most likely too slow. You typically need a beefy computer (or a Mac) for video editing.
