I have a D3100 and would like to know if it is a good camera or if I would be better off with another one(if so which one). Ill be using it for videos and photos. Also I would like to know any tips for it and editing software. Any information would help. Also a list of pros and cons.

I prefer Canon for film making, something at same price range is 600D (T3I), that it an amazing camera for video. For just video yes but if you also like photography, the 60D. OR 7d. 60D and 600D (T3I)both have flip out LCD screens.
Or you can wait till July sometime when the 650D (T4I). They say that will have auto focus on video… Don't know if it will be good. Most probably for basic shots. ( 7D much more expensive)

Video Editing Software:
If you are a student at school or UNI you can get a student version of Production Premium CS6 for about 400 bucks. Well worth it. Has After Effects for great motion graphic creation, unlimited creation. Also Premiere Pro which is the best Video Editor for Semi Professional use. Since Final Cut X is out of the box. And also it comes with Photoshop CS6 and Audition and more!
Production Premium student version can be used on one computer but you can use it for commercial use and basically as you would the original version, which is around 4000 bucks.
Hope I helped. And again if you really want dslr now, Id go for Canon 60D.

Just search the camera, select it and click Customer Reviews. Good Luck!
Reply back if you have made a decision ( Would love to know)

Windows Movie Maker or iMovie (Mac) come with your computer. There are more robust ones out there, but they are not free like these two.

Photoshop Elements Premiere is probably one of the better inexpensive ones.

Use iSkysoft Video Studio Express for Mac is also one of the best for video editing
