They have a fairly different style in terms of the picture they take and the user interface. Just take a good look at both and choose whichever one fits better with you. I have a Canon XTi and I feel comfortable with it but sometimes when I see people taking pictures with their Nikon, the picture looks more professional.

I had a Nikon F2 for years. 150 telephoto Lens and color ops. I took it to Afghanistan on my last deployment. I had over 300 photos that were awesome. One day we got a call to a heavy combat area. I was sure I would get some good photographs. We helicoptered in and had to repel from about 30 feet. I grabbed onto the rope to repel my strap broke as I went out to hang free. The camera fell and broke into 3 pieces. It was a bad day all around. My camera was broken and I got wounded too. Now here is another story.
My best friend had a Canon digital something or other. He also had some nice telephoto lenses. His camera was actually struck by a bullet while on patrol. It still worked after it was struck. His battery didn't hold a charge very well but it worked. So, I guess you can say either camera will work well as long as you are not getting shot at or having to repel from a helicopter.

You want to buy a "professional"! Hmm… Brings images of ladies of the night hanging around on street corners…

Get the idea? Doesn't matter. Get the one you like best. Each one is just as good as the other.

So what's your Budget?

Clearly you don't have a budget because a "Professional" Camera Starts around $4000 that just for the Body Only" which means that doesn't even include "Lenses" which means that you would also have to be spending money on "Lenses" and also Accessories to go along with the "Professional Camera" where you can easily Drop well over $7000 if not more on a "Professional Camera"

This type of question gets asked about which Camera Manufacture or Camera Model is better or recommended far too often which I've said this many times before and I'll say this once again.

It comes down to personal preference where some may like how Nikon feels in their hands or how the layout of the Nikon Cameras are. Vice Verse on Canon Cameras.

Nikon fans would be saying to get Nikon. Same thing with Canon Fans where they would be saying to get Canon.

So otherwise it all comes down to personal preference.

Professional cameras cost more than $4, 000, not including lenses and other accessories.

What you're interested in is called an "entry-level DSLR.'

The Nikon D3200 and Rebel T4i are two good entry-level models.

You'll also want a few basic photography books.
