Nikon is the best for entry level and semi-pro, canon is only for professionals. The entry level models from canon are poor and pretty expensive. Nikon also has the best lenses in the world. Canon lenses are not actually made by canon, they are produced by sigma i think but i'm not sure. From my opinion you should buy the 5100 and later a pro model. Hope it helps

Oh please lead me by the nose! I hate to be that way, but YOU have to make this decision based on the cost of accessory lenses, based on how comfortable one camera is to hold and sight through. I know you have heard this said before, but the camera has to be part of you. When you get your camera what ever your choice, that camera has to be come part of you!
I base my choice on how well I can see through a camera. That's why I defected from a lifetime Canon user to a Pentax DSLR when I re-entered the digital single lens reflex field. My creativity, my mind, my sense of what I want, is paramount to the instrument (camera) I'm using.

Both of them can take good pictures (as long as you know how to operate either camera) and both are similar in their functionality. There may be minor differences in the finer detail. See the review for more detailed info.

Canon make Canon lenses and both Nikon and Canon cater for both consumer and pro markets with similar spec competing cameras.

Find a dealer, handle them and work it out for yourself.

Don't close your mind to Sony, Pentax or Olympus either - they all do the same job.
